“Nandin Branch”
In a remote, scenic health retreat, there was a shrine which protected a big, holy camphor tree. A man found a nandin branch with beautiful red fruits growing right out of the tree. A bitter and transient life of the man and his sick wife goes around the mysterious branch.
“Taste of Hoshigaki”
A boy who had lost his parents as a baby was sent to a Zen temple. He was then sentenced to spend the rest of his life as a boy monk “Shūshin”…
The author herself wrote this English version of the short story “南天の枝/干し柿の味” originally in Japanese.
